September is library card sign-up month: a time to remind parents and kids that a library card is the most important school supply of all.   Research has shown that children who read regularly do better in school than those who don’t.

Library Use Continues to Rise, But Patterns Change

2011 statistics for libraries in Wisconsin are out and show some interesting things.  First, library use in Wisconsin remains high.  Libraries had over 34,659,500 visits last year and more than 63% of Wisconsin residents have library cards.

The number of items checked out declined slightly, about 1%, however checkout of children’s materials increased by 2% and use of eBooks and digital audio jumped by more than 118%.

With tax time fast approaching, don’t forget that many libraries have forms from both the IRS and the Wisconsin Department of Revenue.  If they don’t have the form you need you can look up forms and publications online and print them out.
